Communications • Learning • Employee Experience • Digital Content
Welcome! I’m Nikki, a communications and learning professional who enjoys turning complex information into clear, engaging experiences that help people understand, learn, and take action.
My background spans communications, learning and development, operations, and higher education, giving me a unique combination of creative, analytical, and project management skills. I enjoy bringing those strengths together to make complex information accessible, useful, and engaging.
This portfolio showcases selected work across communications, learning, employee engagement, digital content, video, visual design, and systems adoption.
Conceived, branded, and launched the University Financial Services QuickTips video library. Developed the concept and visual identity, then scripted, designed, recorded, edited, and produced 60+ short-form videos supporting Concur, UKG, and Jaggaer.
The library provides employees with on-demand support and has reduced related help desk requests by approximately 20%.
In the initial phase of this project, I evaluated available software solutions to determine which platform best aligned with our requirements for accessibility, design flexibility, and overall user experience.
QuickTips tutorials and corresponding knowledge base articles are available directly on the UFS website, giving employees convenient, on-demand access to help whenever they need it.
Led the redesign and reorganization of the University Financial Services website in Drupal, replacing a role-based structure with streamlined functional sections for Payroll, Payments, Travel & Expenses, Training, Vendors, Selling Goods & Services, and Important Forms. Created a centralized Training & Resources area to make training, videos, QuickTips, and system support resources easier to find.
Redesigned and modernized a quarterly newsletter for 260+ University leaders and Business Officers, moving it from a traditional email format to Salesforce Marketing Cloud to create a more professional, consistent experience and enable engagement tracking. Managed content development, design, organization, and distribution while using open-rate analytics to evaluate performance.
Following the redesign, open rates increased from approximately 45% to 64–72%.
Managed all aspects of the monthly University Financial Services employee newsletter for 40+ employees, from gathering and organizing content to coordinating deadlines, writing, and editing.
Created employee spotlights and new-hire features by developing questionnaires, interviewing colleagues, and writing personal profiles that helped employees get to know one another and build connection across the division.
Employee Experience • Engagement • Learning Design
When several departments came together to form the new University Financial Services (UFS) division, I saw an opportunity to help employees connect and get to know their new colleagues.
I developed and administered an employee survey, achieving 100% participation from all 37 employees. I then synthesized the responses and created an interactive UFS Team Profile in Articulate Storyline, introducing each department and featuring individual employee profiles with photos, interests, and fun facts.
The project was enthusiastically received by employees and recognized by UFS leadership. It gave previously separate teams a fun, personal way to put names to faces, discover common interests, and begin building connections as one new division.
“A lot of work went into extracting information from the survey results and turning that into bite-sized pieces of information for each person... This was an enormous lift, and you created something beautiful and fun!”

Visual Communication • Training • Campus Engagement
Developed the visual identity, signage, and communications for the University’s COVID-19 saliva testing program, including the SPIT Lab logo and supporting materials used across campus.
COVID-19 Volunteer Training
Designed and launched required e-learning for 150+ student volunteers supporting DU’s COVID-19 saliva testing program. Managed implementation and completion tracking, and incorporated the SPIT Lab branding throughout the learning experience. The training supported volunteers who helped process 450,000+ saliva tests during the pandemic.
Presentations, Training & Video
Travel & Expense Supervisor Training
Storyboarded and produced a system training video for supervisors, serving as the on-screen host to guide employees through key processes and functionality.
Note: A little longer than my typical training video, but easy to skim!
Open Enrollment System Training
Developed a step-by-step training video to help employees navigate the Benefits Open Enrollment system and confidently complete their benefit selections.
Virtual eProcurement Presentation
Introduced DU’s new eProcurement system to the Business Officer community as part of the Procure-to-Pay platform. Created and delivered a presentation with Q&A to build awareness, encourage adoption and support a smooth transition.
Compliance Training • Instructional Design • Stakeholder Partnership
Designed and developed mandatory, university-wide e-learning to support implementation of a new Purchasing Card (P-Card) policy. Partnered with Risk and policy leaders to translate complex requirements into four interactive modules featuring real-world scenarios, knowledge checks, and a final assessment determining P-Card eligibility. Launched in June 2026 and required for all DU P-Card holders.
I designed and developed this interactive iBanner Basics course in Articulate Storyline as a more flexible, self-paced approach to administrative systems training at the University of Denver. The course breaks complex system processes into clear, manageable learning experiences employees can access when they need them.
Watch a Short Preview
Before developing the course, I conducted a learner needs analysis using quantitative and qualitative feedback from 90+ DU administrators. The research identified gaps in administrative and Banner system training and informed recommendations for improving learning and support.

How I Got Here
My passion for learning began in a small town in Illinois, where, as a child, I spent hours creating lessons, organizing assignments, and grading them with stickers, markers, and highlighters. Even then, I found joy in making information clear, engaging, and fun to interact with - a theme that would eventually shape my career.
I began my career in financial analysis and budgeting, building a strong foundation in problem-solving, systems, and process improvement. But as I became involved in high-impact projects and system implementations, I discovered what energized me most: helping people understand information, navigate change, and feel confident using new tools and processes.
That realization led me to earn a Master's degree in Communication Management with a focus on Learning & Development and ultimately move into Training & Communications leadership at the University of Denver. Since then, my work has expanded across communications, learning design, digital content, systems adoption, and employee engagement - bringing together the analytical, technical, and creative skills I most enjoy using.
When I'm not creating, communicating, or learning something new, you'll likely find me playing tennis, skiing, paddleboarding, walking my dog, or out on the golf course. And yes, I still get a little too excited about fresh office supplies and colorful highlighters.
